The Historic Jones Mercantile Building
In January of 2017, the City of Canton took ownership of the Historic Jones Mercantile Building from Cherokee County, as part of an asset swap through the consolidation of fire services. The City Council saw the need to restore the Jones Building back to its historical significance. Later in 2017, the City hired the architecture and design firm of Lord Aeck Sargent to plan and design the renovation of the exterior of the facility. Construction and renovation lasted for approximately two years. With the exterior now renovated to its historic look, the City will move forward with assessing potential use for the interior.
