How do I apply for an Alcohol Server Permit?

New applicants must come to the Canton Police Department and be issued an Alcohol Server Permit before they can start serving. We issue Alcohol Permits any time Monday through Friday from 8:00AM to 4:30PM. All Applicants must provide a valid state issued photo ID, such as a Driver's License or Passport. Applicants will receive a condensed copy of the city's alcohol ordinances, information about the mandatory online training course, and the application to complete. Once the application is finished, a picture of the applicant for their permit will be taken and they will pay the $25.00 fee. Upon receiving permit, it is required to be carried on person while serving. This permit is valid for 1 year and lists it expiration on the card. As stated on the application, it is the applicants responsibility to read and be familiar with the alcohol ordinances, as set by the City of Canton. (Section 6.4 to 6.153) Municode Condition of Premises

 

What is needed to complete your online training?

All persons receiving a new alcohol server permit from the City of Canton are required to complete the online training class through the TIPS® Certified Alcohol Training Website within 100 days of receiving the permit. The website address is:

Once at the website, applicants must select the Tips On-Premise Alcohol Server Training.
Once completed, print the certificate and email it to: alcoholcert@cantonga.gov or bring it to the Canton Police Department at 151 Elizabeth Street, Canton, GA. This certificate of training is valid for 3 years and lists it expiration on the certificate. 

If the training is not completed and the certificate received by the Canton Police Department at the end of the 100 days, the applicant's permit will be suspended. They will not be allowed to serve any alcohol until the training course is completed. In order to get reinstated, the applicant must complete the course, bring the certificate to the Canton Police Department, and pay the reinstatement fee of $25.00.

How do I renew my Alcohol Server Permit?

To renew an Alcohol Server Permit, bring the old permit and a valid state issued photo ID, such as a Driver's License or Passports, to the Canton Police Department. We issue Alcohol Permits Monday through Friday from 8:00AM to 4:30PM.  We will confirm that the certificate of completion for the online training is on file and has not expired. If the online training expires within 30 days of the renewal, the online training will have to be completed before the permit can be renewed. The Applicant will then receive a condensed copy of the city's alcohol ordinances and the application to complete. Once the application is finished, a picture of the applicant for their permit will be taken and they will pay the fee. They will then receive their renewed permit, which they are to keep on their person, able to present while serving. As stated on the application, it is the applicants responsibility to read and be familiar with the alcohol ordinances , as set by the City of Canton. Fees for renewing your ID card are:

$15.00 if renewed within 2 weeks prior or 2 weeks after the expiration date on the card.
$25.00 if renewed later than 2 weeks after the expiration date on the card. 

NOTE: Any person who previously held a City of Canton Alcohol Server Permit that has been expired for a period of 2 years or more will be considered a NEW APPLICANT.
